Information on the Financial Columnist, Bestselling
Author, and CEO of Fisher Investments
Ken Fisher was born in 1950 in San Francisco,
CA. He is the son of famed investor, author and financial theorist
Phil Fisher. After graduating from Humboldt State University
with a degree in economics, he worked for his fathers
investment consulting business, Fisher & Co., founded in
1931. He was the only person to ever be professionally trained
in investment management by Phil Fisher, and later went on to
start his own firm, Fisher Investments. Phil Fisher is still
widely admired and respected as one of the pioneers of modern
investment theory. His investment philosophies, introduced over
forty years ago, are still studied and applied by todays
investment professionals. He recorded them in Common Stocks
and Uncommon Profits, published in 1958, which still remains
in print today, and is considered an investment classic.
Bestselling Author
Ken Fisher published his first book,
Super Stocks, in 1984. In this New York Times bestseller, he
identified the Price-to-Sales Ratio, and was the first financial
theorist to define and use this ratio as a forecasting tool.
The Price-to-Sales Ratio is still part of core financial curriculum
today. Ken Fisher went on to write three additional books, including
2006s bestseller The Only Three Questions that Count,
which highlights the three most important questions any investor
must answer prior to investing, while delivering what he believes
to be sound investment advice; from advantages you can bet on
to market truths, and even mistakes you can avoid. Ken Fishers
latest book, released in October 2008, is The Ten Roads to Riches,
highlights how the worlds wealthy made their fortunes.
In 2007, Ken Fisher partnered with John Wiley & Sons to
create Fisher Investments Press, offering investment education
to a wide audience, from novice investors to professional, for
years to come.
Financial Columnist
In 1984, Ken Fisher started writing for
Forbes Magazine, creating the Portfolio Strategy
column. He is currently the fourth-longest-running columnist
at Forbes, and is still enjoying writing for the magazine today.
The column details Ken Fishers market outlook and offers
investment insight based on his 35+ year professional career,
along with a few individual stock recommendations. These columns
are not necessarily the view of Fisher Investments, Ken Fishers
firm. Ken has written for Bloomberg Money magazine, Equities
magazine, Research magazine, Financial Planning magazine and
Investment Advisor magazine, to name a few. He also writes a
monthly column for Handelsblatt, Germanys leading daily
publication. He is a much sought-after guest columnist/writer
and speaker, and also attends the Forbes cruise annually as
a financial guru/panelist.
Personal Interests
In 1979, Ken Fisher began his own investment
management business, Fisher Investments, based on a fundamental
belief in capitalism and how free capital markets function.
The firm was later incorporated in 1986, and in 2005 became
the holding company for Fisher Asset Management, LLC. The firm
continues to be known as Fisher Investments. Since the early
days, Fisher Investments Institutional Group has been a pioneer
and leader in Small Cap Value equity management, but has since
broadened into a full-scale investment management firm with
an array of products oriented toward specific styles. In 1995,
Fisher Investments began offering global portfolio management
services directly to high net worth individuals via the Private
Client Group. Across both groups, the firm now has clients throughout
North America, Europe and the Middle East and oversees more
than $40 billion in assets (as of 8/31/08).
Information on the CEO of Fisher Investments
Ken Fisher currently resides in Woodside,
CA with his wife of 36 years, Sherrilyn, overlooking the Pacific
Ocean and Half Moon Bay. His interests outside of financial
services include the history of Kings Mountain (where Fisher
Investments headquarters in located), of which he has
written introductions to several books on the subject. He has
also conducted his own archeological investigations in these
areas, leading to the discovery of remnants of logging trucks
and steam-powered sawmills, among other artifacts that had been
in operation on Kings Mountain and the northern Santa Cruz Mountains
in the late 1800s. Kens interest in the giant redwoods
and their canopies has led him to support ongoing study in this
area. In 2006, he endowed the Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood
Forest Ecology at Humboldt State University dedicated to this
field of study.
